The Edge-Beirut Collection: Merging Steel and Creativity

An Artistic Interpretation of Resilience and Adaptability

The Edge-Beirut Collection, designed by Tarek Elkassouf, captures the essence of a city living on the edge. Inspired by the vibrant and ever-changing city of Beirut, this collection reflects the vulnerability and resilience of its surroundings. With its unique blend of solid yet malleable steel designs, The Edge-Beirut Collection showcases the creativity and adaptability that defines Beirut.

At the heart of The Edge-Beirut Collection is the cube. Each design takes the pure form of a cube and distorts, bends, and twists it with precision. The result is a series of steel lamps, tables, and stools that embody the spirit of Beirut. These designs not only capture the essence of a city on the edge but also offer versatility and functionality.

One of the standout features of this collection is the ability of the designs to fit together, allowing for various shapes and forms to suit different tastes and layouts. The geometric form of each unit enables them to be stacked, rotated, and combined, creating endless possibilities for customization.

The craftsmanship behind The Edge-Beirut Collection is truly exceptional. Handmade by artisans in Lebanon, each piece is meticulously hand-welded, assembled, and painted. The use of steel and glass adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to these limited edition designs.

Technical specifications for some of the designs include the Folded Edge Lamp (285mmx285mmx285mm), the Elevated Edge Table (1000mmx1000mmx300mm), the Twisted Edge Table/Stool (350mmx350mmx350mm), the Twisted Diamond Lamp (160mmx160mmx160mm), and the Dark Edge Table/Stool (1000mmx500mmx350mm).

The Edge-Beirut Collection offers a unique interaction with its designs. The folded and twisted forms of the cubes allow for repetition, stacking, and rotation, creating different effects and arrangements. The Dark Edge Table/Stool, in particular, can be transformed into a table, stool, or shelf, and multiple units can be combined to form a cube. The Twisted Edge Table can be used as a table, stool, or stacked to create shelves. The Folded Edge Lamp adds a touch of artistic flair to any space, while the Elevated Edge Table exudes both strength and vulnerability with its glass resting on a base that rises to four points.

The Edge-Beirut Collection was brought to life between May 2014 and January 2015 in Beirut. It was first exhibited at Platform 39 in September 2014 and will be showcased at 392Rmeil393 in May/June 2015. The collection has received recognition for its outstanding design, winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2015. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.

The Edge-Beirut Collection is a testament to the power of design to capture the essence of a city and transform it into functional and visually stunning pieces. Tarek Elkassouf's unique interpretation of Beirut's resilience and adaptability is a true work of art.
